Birthday party tournament bracket

To run a birthday party tournament, pick a quick game everyone can play, list the players, choose double elimination so everyone plays at least twice, and record winners as games finish. mybracket.app is free with no ads: the host creates a free account and builds a bracket for 2–32 players, and guests follow it from a share link without signing up.

Where mybracket.app came from

mybracket.app started as a Binho tournament at a birthday party. It was built for exactly this kind of event: a handful of friends, one game, and a bracket everyone can see.

How to run a birthday party tournament

  1. 1

    Pick a short game

Aim for games that take about 10 minutes: Binho, ping pong, cornhole, a video game race, even rock-paper-scissors for little kids.

  2. 2

    Use double elimination

With double elimination you're out after two losses, so every guest plays at least twice and nobody sits out after one game.

  3. 3

    Enter players in pairing order

The first two names play each other, then the next two. When the player count isn't a power of two, the names at the end of the list get first-round byes, so put the birthday kid there if you want them to have one.

  4. 4

Put the bracket on a screen

Open the share link on a TV or tablet so guests can see who's up next. Reload it after each game to show new results.

  5. 5

    Crown the champion

Tap the winner after each game. The grand final can reset if the losers-bracket player wins it, which makes for a great finish.

Frequently asked questions

What games work for a birthday party tournament?

Anything quick and easy to judge: Binho, ping pong, cornhole, air hockey, Mario Kart races or rock-paper-scissors.

How many players can join?

From 2 to 32. Odd numbers are fine because byes are added automatically.

Do guests need to download anything?

No. mybracket.app runs in the browser. Only the host needs a free account; guests just open the share link.
