How to run a cornhole tournament
- 1
Decide teams and rules
Most backyard events play doubles (two-person teams), cancellation scoring and games to 21. Agree on the rules before the first bag is thrown.
- 2
Count your boards
Each set of boards runs one game at a time. In the template, "Board 1", "Board 2" and so on are your fields, and games are spread across them automatically.
- 3
Choose double elimination if you have time
Double elimination means nobody goes home after one bad game. Single elimination roughly halves the number of games when time is tight.
- 4
Enter teams in pairing order
The first two teams on your list play each other, then the next two. If you have an odd count, the teams at the end of the list get first-round byes.
- 5
Call games and record winners
When a game ends, tap the winning team. If someone reports the wrong winner, undo it and the bracket corrects itself.
- 6
Share the bracket
Post the read-only link in your group chat or on a QR code. Players reload it to see who they play next.
Cornhole bracket size cheat sheet
Time estimates assume about 20 minutes per game with 4 boards all busy. Real events run longer, so add a buffer.
| Teams | First-round byes | Rounds | Single-elim games | Double-elim games | Approx. time (single / double) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4 | 0 | 2 | 4 | 7 | 20m / 40m |
| 6 | 2 | 3 | 6 | 11 | 40m / 1h |
| 8 | 0 | 3 | 8 | 15 | 40m / 1h 20m |
| 12 | 4 | 4 | 12 | 23 | 1h / 2h |
| 16 | 0 | 4 | 16 | 31 | 1h 20m / 2h 40m |
| 24 | 8 | 5 | 24 | 47 | 2h / 4h |
| 32 | 0 | 5 | 32 | 63 | 2h 40m / 5h 20m |
Game counts include the third-place game. In double elimination, add one more game if the grand final resets. Rounds are winners-bracket rounds.
Frequently asked questions
How many cornhole boards do I need for a tournament?
One set of boards per game you want running at the same time. About one set for every four teams keeps people from waiting too long. mybracket.app supports 1 to 16 sets.
Should a cornhole tournament be single or double elimination?
Double elimination if you have the time, because every team plays at least twice. Single elimination is about half the games and works when you need to finish quickly.
Do players and spectators need to sign up?
No. Only the organizer creates a free account. Players and spectators open the read-only share link in any browser, with no sign-in, no download and no ads.
